Establish Bidder types based on business model and reporting needs. Also, assign bidder # ranges.
1) Create a Bidder Name: for example, "Website Absentee Bidder"; then assign the bidder to match a System Default: choose from one of these pre-defined FWS System Types:
If using a "Bidder Prefix" ad the prefix to the next field. This may be helpful later when summarizing bidder types for auction reporting.
IMPORTANT: Because there are system types that cover bidders who are leaving bids on the website (e.g. "Absentee Bidder"), you must mark the web bidders as "Preferred Website Bidder Type" so that the system will assign the correct sequential numeric range of numbers to these bidders. There 4 possible website bidder types/ranges; "Absentee Bidder", "Phone Bidder", "Timed Bidder" and "Buy-It-Now Bidder". If you want the system to assign a specific range to these bidders, make sure to specify.
Assign a paddle range (i.e. 6000 - 6999) to each Bidder Type and later create reports related to the types of bidders participating in your auctions.
For example: a website visitor leaves an absentee bid on your website auction catalog. The system will know to assign a paddle number to this “Website Absentee Bidder” in the range specified by the FWS administrator ("Web Preferred")
Paddle numbers will be automatically generated by the system in certain cases: always when a website visitor registers and bids on the website, by leaving a website Absentee bid , Timed Auction bid, or Timed and Buy-It-Now bid.
Paddle numbers can be assigned by an operator when manually registering a bidder as long as the paddle number is within the range assigned by the admin.
